National Human Rights Commission Chairman Kazi Reazul Hoque has stressed speeding up the trial proceedings in juvenile cases.
The NHRC chief also came up with some recommendations, including the use of video conferencing in Juvenile Correction Centres to speed up the trials while talking to reporters after visiting the centre in Gazipur on Tuesday afternoon.
He noted that the Juvenile Correction Centre in Gazipur was accommodating around 400 inmates against its capacity of 300.
The NHRC would neither suggest increasing the number of Juvenile Correction Centres, nor expanding the capacity of the existing ones, but rather urge the government for steps to ensure quick disposal of the juvenile cases, he added.

Reazul also observed that the inmates should be facilitated with education up to HSC level. At present, the inmates can only study up to fifth grade.
All the basic rights of the children should be ensured inside the centres and the NHRC would advocate the government to even amending the laws to that end, he said.
