At least four people have been killed in road accidents in Panchagarh, Feni and Gazipur districts.
In Panchagarh, an NGO worker was killed near Boda municipality bypass in Boda upazila on Tuesday morning.
The deceased is Biplab Rabbani, 42, son of Abdul Haq Pramanik of Nilphamari’s Domar upazila and field worker of a local NGO.
Boda police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abu Haydar Md Ashrafuzzaman confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
Quoting witnesses, police said a Dhaka-bound bus hit Biplab when he was talking on the phone, killing him on the spot.
Later, members of Boda fire service, police and highway police rescued the body and took it to Boda Upazila Health Complex.
In Feni, a 35-year-old union parishad member named Belal Hossain was killed as he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a boundary wall of a house in Fulgazi upazila on Monday night.
Amjadhat Union Parishad Chairman Mir Hossain Miru confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune, saying the accident occurred near a place named Khajuriya, leaving Belal critically injured.
He was then rescued by locals and taken to Chhagalnaiya Upazila Health Complex, where the duty doctors declared him dead.
Fulgazi police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Kutub Uddin said the body has been kept at Feni General Hospital for autopsy.
In Gazipur, two men riding a motorbike were killed in a road accident near Mawna intersection on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Sreepur upazila around 10pm on Monday.
The deceased are - Lutfar Rahman, 28, son of Younus Ali of Habiganj’s Madhabpur upazila and Nazmus Sakib, 35, son of Mostafizur Rahman of Kurigram Sadar upazila.
Sreepur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Liakat Ali said, a Dhaka-bound bus hit the motorbike head on, killing Sakib on the spot and critically injuring Lutfar.
Locals rescued the victims and took them to Sreepur Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctors announced them dead.
The bodies of the deceased have been handed over to their relatives.
Police managed to impound the bus, but the driver fled the scene.
