2 killed, 23 injured in road accidents

At least two people were killed and 23 injured in road accidents in Moulvibazar, Dinajpur, and Narail on Friday.

In Moulvibazar, a woman was killed after being hit by a motorcycle in the Ranirbazar Tilakpur area of the Kamalganj upazila in the morning.

The deceased Bodhoni Devi, 55, was from the Tilokpur village, confirmed Kamalganj police station OC Md Arifur Rahman.

Eye-witnesses said, the woman was taking a walk with her husband on the Kamalganj-Adampur road when a speeding motorcycle hit her. The woman died on her way to a hospital.

In Dinajpur, a motorcyclist was killed when his vehicle collided with a battery-run van in Satkuri rail gate area in Hili.

The deceased Emon Hossain, 16, died on his way to Rangpur Medical College Hospital, while his passenger Israfil Alam, 15 was injured and taken to the Hakimpur upazila Health Complex. 

In Narail, at least 23 people were injured when a  bus overturned and fell into a roadside ditch on the Narail-Maijpara road of the Sadar upazila in the afternoon.

Victims said the bus driver was on his mobile phone when his vehicle collided with a roadside tree in the Shahabad Bottala area and fell into the ditch.

Locals rescued the injured and took them to the Narail Sadar Hospital, but the three severely injured identified as Yasmin, 3, Jahangir, 40, and Sumaiya, 4, were later transferred to the Jessore 250-bed General Hospital for treatment.

The driver managed to escape the scene immediately after the accident.
