Update : 06 Sep 2019, 08:53 PM

Road crashes killed at least 3,075 people across the country in the last eight months, a monthly survey report of Shipping and Communication Reporters Forum (SCRF) said

This year, between January 1 and August 31, 2,807 road accidents occurred on various highways, national, inter-district, and regional roads, the report said.

At least 3,075 people, including 384 women and 478 children, were killed, and 5,697 others were injured.

The SCRF revealed the figures as collected from 22 national dailies, 10 regional newspapers, and eight online news portals, and news agencies, said its regular monthly survey, in a press statement on Friday.

February saw the highest number of deaths (415), followed by January, when 411 were killed.

At least 398 people died last month which is this year’s third highest as yet.

SCRF President Ashis Kumar Dey said major reasons behind the rise in road accidents are reckless driving, unskilled drivers, and breaching of traffic rules.
