A total six people have died of dengue fever in Dhaka, Rangpur, Jessore, Gopalganj, and Jhenaidah districts on Tuesday.
In Dhaka, a 15-year-old died from dengue at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) around 7am.
The deceased Md Jisan was a ninth grade student at a local school in Gazipur.
Md Zakir Hossain, brother-in-law of the deceased, said: "Jisan had been suffering from fever for the past one week and was taken to Shaheed Taj Uddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for primary checkup."
He was diagnosed with dengue and referred to DMCH the following day, where he took his last breath, Zakir said.
Doctors have handed over Jisan's body to his family, confirmed DMCH police outpost Inspector Md Bachu Mia.
Also in Dhaka, another woman died of dengue fever at the DMCH.
The deceased Ritu Akhter, 20, was the wife of Ibrahim Molla, a resident of south Keraniganj in the capital.
She died around 8pm while undergoing treatment at the medicine ward of the hospital.
Confirming the matter, Zahidul Islam, a cousin of the deceased, said that Ritu had been suffering from dengue for seven days and was undergoing treatment at the Dhaka National Medical Institute Hospital in Old Dhaka.
As her condition deteriorated, Ritu Akhter was then shifted to DMCH's medicine ward, where she breathed her last around 5pm.
In Rangpur, a man has died of dengue while under treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH).
Deceased Mahtab Uddin, 24, died early Tuesday, RMCH spokesperson and Assistant Professor of Medicine Department Dr Asaduzzaman told Dhaka Tribune.
He said Mahtab was admitted to M Abdur Rahim Medical College, Dinajpur (Marmc), after being diagnosed with dengue on August 18.
Later, he was shifted to RMCH and kept at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as his condition deteriorated.
Mahtab was then taken to the dengue ward when his condition improved a little. However, his health worsened again late at night and he eventually died.
In Jessore, a 55-year-old woman has died of dengue fever at Jessore General Hospital.
The deceased Rebecca Khatun was the wife of Sekander Ali hailing from Jessore's Monirampur upazila.
Jessore General Hospital's Director Dr Abul Kalam Azad confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
According to hospital sources, Rebecca was admitted at the hospital on August 26, Monday around 10:55am.
She breathed her away around 7pm.
In Gopalganj, a 35-year-old woman has died of dengue fever.
The deceased, Mahmuda Begum, was the wife of Amir Hossain of Nazirpur upazila.
Abu Salek Khan, uncle of the deceased, said that Mahmuda had been was admitted at the Gopalganj Medical College Hospital on Friday due to dengue fever.
She died at the hospital while undergoing treatment.
In Jhenaidah, Sufia Begum, 55, wife of Abdur Rahim of Baniria in Kaliganj upazila, died at the Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex in the morning after being diagnosed with dengue.
Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, Dr Husain Safayet of the health complex said: "Sufia was admitted to the hospital with fever and headache on Monday. Tests confirmed that she had been infected with dengue.
"She died around 9:45am. Sifia's body has been handed over to her family."
The unofficial death toll stands at 118, so far
A total of 1,299 dengue patients have been admitted to different hospitals across Bangladesh in the last 24 hours.
Among them, 608 patients were admitted in Dhaka, and 691 in districts outside Dhaka.
Dengue, a mosquito-borne virus, spreads among humans through its carrier Aedes mosquito.
Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), in a press release issued on Tuesday, said the number of admitted patients currently undergoing treatment in government and private hospitals combined is 5,322.
A total 52 dengue patients have died across Bangladesh from January 1 till August 27, according to their own collected data.
A total of 2,999 patients are currently receiving treatment in different government and private hospitals in Dhaka, whereas a total of 2,323 people are undergoing treatment outside Dhaka, the release said.
Since January 1 till August 27, a total of 66, 064 people have been affected by dengue.
Among those admitted, a total of 60, 569 have been released from their respective hospitals and clinics after treatment.
