At least 18 people were killed and scores injured in several road accidents across the country on Saturday.
Our Sylhet correspondent reported that two people were killed in an accident in Nipoban area on Sylhet-Tamabil Road in the afternoon.
The accident occurred when a truck collided head-on with a CNG-run auto- rickshaw around 3:30pm, leaving the two passengers of the auto-rickshaw dead on the spot, said Shahjalal Munshi, officer-in-Charge of Sahaparan police station.
In Gopalganj, three people were killed and six others injured as a truck turned turtle on Gopalganj-Tekerhat Road in Muksudpur early on Saturday, our correspondent reported.
Two of them were killed on the spot when the truck overturned in Gongarampur area. Another person succumbed to injuries at Madaripur Rajoir Hospital.
According to UNB reports, five young men were killed and 12 injured in separate road accidents in Phulpur and Bhaluka upazilas of Mymensingh in the morning.
In Phulpur, three young men were killed on the spot and two others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a pick-up van at Bhaitkandi.
On the other hand, two passengers were killed in Bhaluka and 10 others injured when a bus overturned on Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway at Hazirbazar around 8am.
In Magura, three people were killed and eight others injured in a collision between two buses of Shohag Paribahan and Royal Paribahan on Dhaka-Magura Highway in Madhukhali upazila.
A passenger died on the spot while another was declared dead at Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
Our Gazipur correspondent said that an RMG official was killed as a truck ran over him while crossing Dhaka-Tangail Highway in Mouchak area in the morning.
The deceased was Alfaz Uddin, 30, manager of Sparrow Apparels Ltd in Gazipur and son of Hasen Ali of Khoksha in Kushtia.
In Chuadanga, an elderly person named Abu Sufian was killed as a human haulier hit his bicycle at Sohagpur intersection in Alamdanga in the morning, reports our correspondent.
Our Kushtia correspondent reported that one Chand Ali, 60, was killed as a truck hit him in Rajbari area of the district in the morning.
In Chittagong, two people including a woman were killed and three others critically injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a CNG-run autorickshaw in Nandir Hat area on Chittagong-Hathazari Road in the afternoon.
One of the deceased was Md Mozammel, 21, while the identity of the woman could not be ascertained immediately.
