Two tourists including a navy man have drowned while crossing Paindu Canal in Ruma upazila of Bandarban.
The drowned were identified as Md Asif alias Saifullah, a 23-year-old second lieutenant from Bangladesh Navy, and Jannat, an 18-year-old student from Green Heart Art College.
The incident occurred around 6pm on Saturday, but as it happened in a remote area, the administration was unaware of it till Sunday.
Police and witnesses said a team of six tourists, including the duo, went to visit the Tinap Saitar Waterfall in the upazila. On their way back, the two drowned and went missing.
Rowangchhari sadar UP Member Lal Ro Sang Bom said: “Tourist guide Polash Tonchonga and Jemshon Bom were in charge of these six tourists.”
Md Shariful Islam, officer-in-charge of Rowangchhari police station, confirmed the matter saying: “Ruma police have visited the scene and we have yet to find any bodies.”
