11 killed in road accidents in 6 districts

8 others were injured

At least 11 people were killed, and 8 others injured in separate road accidents in 6 districts on Saturday.

In Jessore, two people died in separate road accidents. In Sadar upazila, a man died when a truck lost control, and hit a tree on the Jessore-Magura road. Monirul Islam, 25, the truck driver, died in a hospital. 

In Sarsha upazila, a man was killed, and one was injured after a bus rammed into a three-wheeler on the Jessore-Shatkhira road in the morning. The deceased Tutul, 35, was a passenger of the three-wheeler.

In Gopalganj, three people died in separate road accidents. In Sadar upazila, a woman was killed when a sand-laden trolley overturned, and fell on a van, on which she was travelling.

The deceased Nargis Begum, 23, died on the spot, in front of Gopalganj General Hospital at Sadar upazila in the morning. Three others, including a month old infant, were also injured in the incident.

In Muksudpur upazila, two people were killed after a bus rammed into a van on the Dhaka-Khulna Highway in the morning.

The deceased Sakib Khan, 7, and his mother Shaon Begum, 27 died on the spot.

Enraged by the accident, locals blocked the road for two hours, and vandalized 10-12 buses, triggering a five-kilometre long traffic gridlock in the area.

In Joypurhat, a man was killed when a battery-run auto-rickshaw overturned on the Joypurhat-Bogra road in Kalai upazila in the afternoon.

The deceased Azizul Hoq, 45, a cow trader, died on the spot. Two passengers in the same vehicle were also injured.

In Rangpur, three people were killed in a motorcycle accident at Shathibari area of Mithapukur upazila early yesterday.

The deceased Madhu, 24, and Murad, 23, died on the spot while another passenger Shambhu, 25, died in Rangpur Medical College Hospital, confirmed Baradargah Highway Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Afzal.

In Habiganj, a teenager was run over by a bus on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Shaistaganj upazila in the afternoon.

The deceased Parvez Mia, 16, was declared dead at a nearby hospital.

In Satkhira, an infant was killed when a three-wheeler hit her on the Satkhira-Kaliganj road in Kaliganj upazila in the morning.

The deceased Nasima Khatun, 4, died on the way to Sakhipur hospital.
