Ferry services on the Paturia-Daulatdia route have been restored after several hours due to bad weather. Meanwhile, due to strong gusts, two ferries laden with vehicles were stuck in Char (submerged sandbeds).
The services were halted due to bad weather from 5:30am to 7am on Thursday. Later in the day, two ferries were stuck in sandbeds from around 9am.
Ferry Amanat Shah was rescued around 11am, whereas, Ferry Shah Makhdam was rescued at around 1:45pm, respectively.
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Aricha office's General Manager (trade) Zillur Rahman confirmed the matter and said: “Since the ferry service was shut off, tailbacks of hundreds of vehicles were created on both sides of the Padma River.”
Officers of the BIWTC's Aricha and Daulatdia offices said that more than five hundred vehicles including buses, trucks, and cars were waiting to cross the river using the Paturia-Daulatdia route.
