Man hacked dead in front wife in Barguna

A video of the incident went viral in the social media

A young man was hacked to death in broad daylight in front of Barguna Government College on Wednesday morning.

The deceased was identified as Rifat Sharif, 22, son of Halim Dulal, of Sadar upazila, confirmed Barguna police station OC Abir Hossain Mahmud.

According to witnesses, three people stabbed Sharif around 10am with sharp weapons, in front of his wife and many onlookers, leaving him critically injured.

A video of the incident went viral in social media platforms.

Sharif was rushed to Barguna General Hospital and later moved to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital, where the duty doctors declared him dead around 4pm.

The victim’s father Dulal Sharif said: “Rifat and Ayesha Aktar Minni were married two months ago. A local named Noyon, used to harass Minni and Rifat, claiming she was Noyon’s former wife. The couple had a feud due to this.”

Based on this feud, Noyon, Rifat Farazi and Rabbi attacked Rifat Sharif and left him critically injured, he added.

Barguna police station OC Abir Hossain Mahmud said police have been able to identify the assailants from a video footage.

Police are working to arrest the killers, the OC added.
