Police: Sourav was held captive by miscreants

Police are looking into this issue and trying to identify the culprits

Syed Iftekhar Alam Sourav, the nephew of former state minister Sohel Taj, has been found and returned to his family—under police protection—after he was held captive for 11 days.

Mymensingh Superintendent of Police (SP) Shah Abid Hossain disclosed the development at a press briefing at his office in the district town held around 9am on Thursday.

He said: “Sourav was abducted by unidentified miscreants. Police are still looking into this issue and trying to identify them.”

Sourav did not attend the press briefing.

The SP said: "The miscreants left Sourav in front of Jamil Auto Rice Mill around 5:30am on Thursday. One of the employees of the Rice Mill, Soumik, informed Sourav’s family about his location.

"Sourav’s family notified the DMP Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit. Later, Tarakanda police officials—in association with district officials—rescued him and brought him to the Mymensingh Police Station."

Shah Abid also mentioned that Sourav was doing fine after his release.
