At least five people were killed and dozens of others were injured in separate road accidents in Narayanganj and Netrona districts on Tuesday.
In Narayanganj, four people were killed and 16 others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a three-wheeler at Tarabo municipality area of Rupganj upazila on Tuesday morning.
Of the injured, three were reported to be in critical condition.
The deceased were identified as Rina Khatun, 39, and Asma Begum, wife of Mizan Miah of Pirozpur. The other two victims could not be identified immediately.
Kanchpur highway police station Sub-inspector (SI) Abdus Samad confirmed the news to Dhaka Tribune.
SI Samad said: “A Sylhet-bound bus, owned and operated by Agradoot Paribahan, collided head-on with a three-wheeler coming from the opposite direction. Three people died at the scene, and another succumbed to injuries while being transported to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).”
The bus driver and his assistant managed to flee the accident scene, he added. Police are on the hunt to capture the pair.
The SI also said: “At least 16 people were injured. They were admitted to US-Bangla Medical College Hospital and DMCH.”
The bodies of the deceased have been sent to Narayanganj General Hospital for autopsy.
In Netrokona, a man was killed under the wheels of a moving bus at Kendua bus stand on Tuesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Nilu Miah, 35, of Chongao village under Madan upazila.
Kendua police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Rasheduzzaman said: “Nilu Miah was travelling on a Shaymoli Paribahan bus to Madan upazila in Netrokona. As the bus arrived at Kendua bus stand, Nilu got off, but the next moment, as he tried to step back into the bus, he fell under the wheels.”
Critically injured Nilu Miah was rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
The bus driver and his assistant managed to flee the scene, said the OC.
