The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday

Update : 30 May 2019, 12:37 PM

Two suspected robbers have been lynched by a mob in Durgapur in Ashuganj upazila of Brahmanbaria.

The deceased are: Jamal Mia, 32, from Habiganj, and Shahid Mia, 42, from Brahmanbaria  Sadar upazila.

They were caught by a mob when leaving from Habibur Rahman's house in Durgapur – which they had come to rob – in the early hours of Thursday, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ashuganj police station Masud Rahman said.

According to police and locals, a group of robbers broke the doors and cut the grills of Habibur's house and got inside.

Finding Habibur, his daughter Rubina, his son Sanaullah and his daughter-in-law Priti, the robbers attacked them and started to hack at them with sharp weapons.

Hearing their screams, their neighbours rushed to their house and surrounded it. Although most of the group of robbers managed to escape, the mob caught two of them and beat them mercilessly. The two died on the spot.

Seven members of Habibur’s family, including himself, sustained injuries when the robbers attacked them. They have been transferred to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

Ashuganj police station OC said the bodies have been recovered and sent to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital for autopsy. "An investigation has been launched. Action will be taken based upon the investigation."
