Two young girls were found dead in a toilet of the Kauriapara launch terminal, adjacent the bank of the Meghna River at Narsingdi town.
The deceased Nusrat Jahan Taiyen, 11, and Tanisha Tayeba, 4, were siblings and residents of the Purbo Chalakchar area in the Monohardi upazila, Narsingdi.
Locals spotted the body in the evening and later informed police.
Police recovered the bodies around 8pm and sent them to the Narsingdi Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, confirmed Narsingdi Superintendent of Police (SP) Miraj Uddin Ahmed.
Police are interrogating the family members of the children in connection with the incident.
SP Miraj said: "We are assuming that the girls were strangled somewhere else, and then the bodies were dumped in the toilet. Further investigation of the incident is underway."
