Customs officials detained a person with 96 gold bars, worth around Tk5 crore, at the Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong.
The detainee, Md Shahjahan, arrived in Chittagong at 4:15pm on Sunday from Bangkok, on a Regent Airlines flight.
Nur Uddin Milon, deputy commissioner of Chittagong Customs House, said: “As the passenger’s movement looked suspicious, customs officials searched him, and found a total of 96 gold bars, weighing around 11.25 kg, in his possession.”
Process is underway to take legal actions against the detainee, he added.
