Nine more flights have been cancelled at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong.
According to sources, the cancellations occurred due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, which has led to the closure of airfields in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Doha.
Airport’s Public Relations Officer, Engineer Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil, confirmed the matter on Wednesday.
Airport sources said that a total of nine international flights were cancelled on the day. Among them, two flights of Biman Bangladesh Airlines — one inbound and one outbound from the Middle East — were cancelled.
Additionally, one inbound flight from Dubai operated by US-Bangla Airlines was cancelled. Two incoming and two outgoing flights between Sharjah operated by Air Arabia were also cancelled. Similarly, one inbound and one outbound flight between Muscat operated by SalamAir were cancelled.
However, not all flights were suspended. Authorities reported that four inbound and three outbound flights from various airlines operating in the Middle East remained operational.
Airport officials stated that uncertainty in the airspace over Sharjah, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi has once again disrupted flight operations on these routes.
According to airport sources, since the situation began on February 28, a total of 137 international flights — including today’s nine — have been cancelled.
Authorities fear that such disruptions may continue until the situation returns to normal.
