The number of cancelled flights from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka continues to increase as several countries have closed their airspace following attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran.
As of Wednesday noon, another 24 flights have been cancelled.
With this, a total of 391 flights have been cancelled over 12 days, from February 28 to March 11.
The information was confirmed by Kawsar Mahmud, an official from the public relations department of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB).
He said that amid the security situation in the Middle East on February 28, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar and Jordan closed their airspace. The airspace restrictions remain in place. Due to the situation, flights of various airlines operating from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport have been and continue to be cancelled.
According to airport authorities, 23 flights were cancelled on February 28, followed by 40 on March 1, 46 on March 2, 39 on March 3, 28 on March 4, 36 on March 5, 34 on March 6, 28 on March 7, 28 on March 8, 33 on March 9, 32 on March 10, and 28 flights on March 11.
Among the flights cancelled as of Wednesday noon are two each from Kuwait Airways and Gulf Air, and four each from Air Arabia, Qatar Airways, Emirates, Jazeera Airways and flydubai.
