Ten young Bangladeshis who were trafficked into India and then held for two years in juvenile correction facilities were safely returned home on Thursday.
The youths were handed over to the Bangladesh Hilli immigration police at 11.30am by Indian Hilli immigration police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Nazir Hossain.
Bangladesh National Woman Lawyers' Association aided in ensuring that the juveniles were returned safely and in a legal manner.
The boys have been returned safely to their families Halim Al Raji/Dhaka TribuneThe victims claim they were enticed to India in 2015 with promises of good jobs and were then illegally taken across the Hilli border by the traffickers.
However, they were arrested by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) around the Balurghat area and were later ordered by the court to be sent to a juvenile correction centre in Balurghat of South Dinajpur, India, as they were all minors at the time.
“Due to the lengthy legal procedures these trafficked youths were held at the juvenile correction facilities for two years," said Hilli immigration in Bangladesh OC, Md Aftab Hossain.
"However, they have all been returned to their families now".
