Wanted criminal’s arrest leaves six policemen injured

The wanted criminal, identified as Wasim was accused in 14 cases

Six policemen suffered various injuries while attempting to arrest a wanted criminal in Chittagong on Monday.

The criminal, identified as Wasim, was also shot during the skirmish.

The incident took place at 4pm in the Asadganj Shutkipalli area under the Kotwali police station in the city.

The police arrested the top criminal accused in 14 cases.

Mohammad Mohsin, officer-in-charge of the Kotwali police station said: "Three assistant sub-inspectors and three constables were hurt when they tried to arrest Wasim.

“They went to Asadganj Shutkipalli around 4pm and encountered Wasim. A light firearm and three rounds were recovered from his possession."

Inspector Jahirul Islam, in-charge of the Chittagong Medical College Hospital police outpost told the Dhaka Tribune that six policemen were admitted to the hospital.

"Of them, two policemen were released after getting primary medical treatment," he added.

Later, CMCH police outpost’s ASI Shilabrata Barua confirmed that the top criminal succumbed to his injuries around 7:45pm.
