Two sub-inspectors of Dasar police station are accused of negligence of duty and destruction of evidence along with a local Awami Leaguer in the case for the gang rape of two teenagers in Madaripur.
Two madrasah students were gang raped and locked up in a flat for two days in Baligram union of Kalkini upazila in Madaripur on April 4.
Rape survivors’ family members at Dasar police station were reluctant to record the case following the incident, and delayed medical tests for the girls.
Sub-Inspectors Delwar and Mannan, along with local Awami League leader and former UP chairman, Motin Mollah, reportedly extorted huge sums of money from the victim’s family members with false promises of justice.
A rape survivor’s father said: “No suspects were detained in one week. On top of that, we have been getting threats for withdrawing the case.”
In response to these allegations, Awami League leader Motin Molla denied to offer any settlement through village shalish.
Dasar police station Sub-Inspector Delwar denied allegations of negligence of duty, and said there were no incidents of rape, so there was no need for a case and medical tests.
Human rights activist and lawyer, Abul Hasan Sohel, said: “The medical test for rape survivors should be conducted within 24 hours or else signs of rape become undetectable.”
Dasar police station OC Nasir Uddin said: “The suspects managed to flee town as the case, including medical test reports, was filed late.
“The allegations against the police are untrue and there is no chance of negligence of duty.”
