Police recovered the hanging body of a student from a madrasa in Oxygen area under Bayazid Bostami upazila of Chittagong early Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Habibur Rahman, 12, son of auto-rickshaw driver Anisur Rahman, a resident of Shershah Banglabazar area.
Ataur Rahman Khandaker, officer-in-charge of Bayazid Bostami police station, said that acting on a tip-off, a team of police recovered the body from Abu Bakkar Siddiq Al Islamia Madrasa around 12am, reports UNB.
Local people put the madrasa under lock and key, accusing the madrasa authorities of involvement in the incident.
The OC said they are investigating the death.
Talking to reporters in front of Chittagong Medical College and Hospital morgue, the boy's father said that his son returned home four days ago as Tarek Ahmed, a teacher of the madrasa, had allegedly tortured him. But he sent back his son to the madrasa the next day.
On Wednesday evening, around 7pm, he received a phone call from the madrasa informing him that his son was missing, Anisur Rahman said.
Around 9pm that night, he received another call saying the boy had committed suicide by hanging himself from the grill of a window at the madrasa.
"It was a planned murder. My son could not commit suicide. He has been killed," alleged Anisur.
“The teacher killed my son and staged the murder as suicide,” he added.
However, denying the allegation, teacher Tarek Ahmed said that Habibur was seen playing in the field till evening and he went missing after Maghrib prayers. Later, they found his body hanging in a room of the madrasa.
