LGRD minister directs officials to identify risky school buildings

A student was killed in a school ceiling collapsed in Barguna

Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) Minister Md Tajul Islam has directed its officials concerned to identify risky school buildings across Bangladesh.

He made the statement while addressing a press conference at the Secretariat on Sunday.

The minister also instructed the ministry officials to ensure stern punishment of those responsible Barguna school ceiling collapse, that killed a student.

A third-grader was killed and five others were injured as a portion of ceiling of PK Government Primary School in Betagi upazila collapsed on them on April 6.

The minister said the collapsed building will soon be reconstructed reports UNB.

Expressing sorrow, Tajul said the on-duty officials of LGRD have been assigned to identify the people responsible for the faulty construction of the school building and also to bring them to the books.

"Direction has been given to take actions to identify risky school buildings and reconstruct those," the minister added.
