13 killed in road crashes across the country

The accidents took place in Dhaka, Rangpur, Sylhet, Pabna, Manikganj, Rangamati, Jamalpur, Magura, and Chuadanga on Tuesday

At least 13 people were killed and several others injured in separate road accidents in nine districts.

The accidents took place in Dhaka, Rangpur, Sylhet, Pabna, Manikganj, Rangamati, Jamalpur, Magura, and Chuadanga on Tuesday.

In Sylhet, a woman and her son were killed in a head-on collision between a pickup truck and an auto-rickshaw on Salutikar-Goainghat road at Satigram village in Gowainghat upazila.

The deceased were identified as Ilora Parvin, 38, and their son Sajid Mia, 6. They were killed on their way to Jaflong.

Gowainghat police station OC Abdul Jalil said the mother and her son were killed on the spot, while four others were also injured.

In Rangpur, three people were killed in a road accident on Rangpur-Bogra Highway in Pirganj upazila.

Pirganj police station OC Swadesh Chandra said a covered van hit a road divider and crashed onto a Thakurgaon-bound bus around 4am. The van driver's assistant and two bus passengers were killed on the spot.

The identities of the deceased could not be known yet.

In Manikganj, an unidentified man, aged around 45, was killed after a truck ran over him on Dhaka-Aricha Highway in Shibaloy upazila's Falshatia area.

The body was sent to Manikganj Sadar Hospital for autopsy, said Yamin-Ud-Doula, in-charge of Bangail police outpost.

In Pabna, Amirul Islam, son of Amzad Hossain of Naraikhali village in Chatmohar upazila, was killed after two human haulers collided on Tebunia-Chatmohar road at Bhabanipur village in Chatmohar upazila.

In Chuadanga, a teenager sustained severe injuries after a pickup van hit him on Chuadanga-Meherpur road in Sadar upazila's Hatikata area.

Raju Ahmed, 17 was rushed to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, said Deloar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Chuadanga Sadar Police Station.

In Dhaka, Abrar Ahmed Chowdhury, a student of Bangladesh University of Professionals, was killed when a bus of 'Suprovat Paribahan' ran over him in front of Bashundhara gate on Pragati Sarani area around 7:15am.

Students of different private universities blocked the road in front of Jamuna Future Park, halting the traffic movement from Kuril Bishwaroad to Bhatara.

In Magura, a three-wheeler driver named Emdadul Haque, 22, was killed after being rear-ended by a passenger bus, on the Magura-Faridpur Highway.

Magura police station OC Sirajul Islam confirmed and said: “The victim died on the way to the Magura Sadar Hospital.”

In Rangamati, two men died after being trapped under a sand-haulier truck in Rangamati’s Kaptai upazila.

Chandraghona police station OC Ashraf Uddin said: “The sand-haulier truck turned over and fell in a ditch near Hatimara area.”

The deceased Kabir Hossain, 28 and Md Jahangir, 52 were both construction workers from Bhola district.

In Jamalpur, an HSC candidate was killed and two others injured, in collision between a motorcycle and power tiller on the Madarganj-Jamalpur Highway on Monday around 11am. 

The deceased Nasim Pramanik, 16, died on the way to the Upazila Health Complex.

Another class ten schoolboy died in head-on collision between a rickshaw and motorcycle in Dewanganj upazila.

The deceased Waz Karuni Mamun, 16, was a resident of Bahadurabad union.
