A campus cleanup initiative took place at Rajshahi University campus on Monday.
RU Vice Chancellor M Abdus Sobhan inaugurated the initiative 8am on Monday morning, saying: “Cleanliness is integral to faith. It is necessary to always remain clean. If we take the initiative to clean up our surroundings, we can clean up all of Bangladesh.”
The vice chancellor also said: “Hard work is never belittling. We cannot look down upon members of society who perform menial labour. We should always respect every occupation. Initiatives like this campus cleanup operation will help make Rajshahi University a cleaner and prettier campus. We will repeat this initiative.”
Prof Mokhlesur Rahman, chair of the Department of Economics at Japan University of Economics, said: “In Japan, students and teachers clean campuses together to raise awareness. We should also cultivate this behaviour in Bangladesh.”
Also attending the cleaning initiative were Pro-VC Prof Ananda Kumar Saha and Chowdhury Md Zakaria, Treasurer Prof AKM Mostafizur Rahman Al Arif, Student Advisor Prof Laila Arzuman Banu, Public Relations Office Administrator Prof Probhash Kumar Karmakar, Proctor Prof Lutfar Rahman, ICT Center Director Prof Khademul Islam Molla, and university faculty and students along with campus cleaning staff.
