5 Myanmar nationals held in Bandarban

Five Myanmar nationals have been detained in Bandarban’s Lama upazila.

The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon.

Police and army stationed at a check post in Fashiakhali union detained them after they searched a passenger car.

Lama police station Officer-in-Charge (OC), Apella Raju Naha, confirmed the incident.

The Myanmar nationals are Abul Kalam, 33, Sadique Ali, 32, Hamid Hossain, 30, Ali Ahmed, 28, and Shamsul Alam, 35. They are all from the Arakan state of Myanmar.

Sources said law enforcement detained them upon failure to show proper identification and paperwork. The detainees were sent to the police station.

The OC said: “The detained men have been sent to camps in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar.”
