The deceased’s brother claims the murder was premeditated

A Bangladesh Chhatra League activist has been stabbed to death by rivals in Tongi, Gazipur.

The incident took place around Bhoran Munshi Para Road around 8:30pm on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Prince Mahmud Nahid, 27, son of Jahirul Islam, a resident of Datta Para area under Tongi east police station.

Nahid was an active member of a local Chhatra League unit, a student wing of ruling Awami League.

Tongi (east) police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kamal Hossain said: “Nahid's rivals attacked and stabbed him because of enmity over a cricket match, leaving him critically injured.”

“Later, locals rescued him by bringing him to a nearby hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead on arrival.”

Acting on information, police recovered the body from that hospital and sent it to the morgue of Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College & Hospital in Gazipur for autopsy, the OC added.

However, the deceased’s older brother, Jewel Mahmud Parvez, claimed that the incident did not occur because of a cricket match. Some 10 or 12 youths attacked Nahid when he was heading to his father-in-law’s house, after offering his isha prayers at a local mosque in Bhoran, Tongi.

“It was not over a cricket match. My brother was stabbed to death in a pre-planned manner,” he added.
