Terming the bid to hijack a Biman Bangladesh Airlines aircraft as an isolated incident, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Mohammad Javed Patwary on Tuesday said that the country's law and order situation is better than any time in the past.

He came up with the remarks after inaugurating a newly constructed arsenal, three thana bhabans and one police outpost at Sukhi Nilganj Police Lines in Rangamati.

The IGP said all kinds of facilities have been ensured to increase the capabilities of police.

"The use of illegal firearms has been increasing in the hills day by day. Joint plans with other forces have been taken to conduct drives against illegal firearms and drugs, while drives against illegal firearms holders are already underway and will intensify in the future," he said.

Chittagong Range Deputy Inspector General Khandker Golam Faruque, Rangamati Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Alamgir Kabir and other senior officers were present.

Meanwhile, the IGP also inaugurated several establishments at Rangamati Polwel Nature Park.
