Incumbent Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) Director General Rear Admiral AMMM Aurangzeb Chowdhury has been appointed as the new chief of naval staff.
The Defence Ministry issued a gazette notification in this regard on Sunday.
According to the notification, the appointment will come into effect in the afternoon of January 26 when Rear Admiral AMMM Aurangzeb Chowdhury will be promoted to the rank of vice admiral.
He has been appointed as the navy chief for one and half years until July 25, 2020.
Aurangzeb Chowdhury will replace incumbent Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmed who is scheduled to go on retirement on January 26.
