Update : 19 Jan 2019, 06:10 PM

Jatiya Party (JaPa) Chairman HM Ershad will leave for Singapore for a health check-up on Sunday.

Ershad will fly on a Singapore Airlines flight, scheduled to leave at 12:40pm on Sunday, said a press release on Saturday.

During the visit, Ershad’s younger brother Hossain Morshed and his wife Roksana Khan Morshed, and JaPa Presidium Member Major (retd) Khaled Akhter will accompany him.

The press release, however, did not mention the health problems Ershad is suffering from.

When contacted, JaPa Presidium Member Syed Abu Hossain Babla said: “The chairman is suffering from multiple health complications, including acute knee pain and liver problems.”

Just before the December 30 general election, Ershad underwent treatment in Singapore from December 10, and returned home on December 26.

Later, he was admitted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka on January 5, and released on Saturday.

Amid rumours, Ershad continued being a contestant in the national election from Rangpur 3 constituency and won the seat, although he could not carry out any campaigning.

In a statement on January 4, Ershad said his party would be the main opposition in the 11th parliament, while he will act as the leader of the opposition. He also made his brother GM Quader deputy opposition leader of the house.

In another press release on Friday, the JaPa chairman said party co-chairman GM Quader will lead the party during his absence for medical treatment abroad.
