Biker killed during police chase in Comilla

A motorcyclist was killed when a microbus carrying four policemen hit the bike from behind in Balutupa area of Comilla on Friday morning. Following the incident, an angry mob set fire to the microbus. “A microbus carrying the policemen hit a motorcycle from behind leaving the biker dead. Later an angry mob torched the microbus,” Additional Police Superintendent Abdullah Al Manun said. The police official, however, gave a different version of the incident in the morning. He said: “The youth was killed after he lost control of the motorcycle and hit a roadside tree. The four policemen chased him as he refused to stop when asked.” The body of the biker, Rasel, 25, son of late Shafiullah of Noakhali, was recovered by the police from a roadside field around 9am. According to witnesses, the microbus was chasing the youth for around 1km and hit the motorcycle on reaching Balutupa area. The locals then barged to the spot, stopped the microbus and vandalised it before setting it on fire. The fire was later doused by local fire fighters. The authorities have deployed additional police in the area.
