A 13-year-old girl, who was reportedly gang-raped 10 months ago, gave birth to a boy during her Primary Education Completion (PEC) examination in Banshkhali Upazila of Chittagong on Sunday.
Nahida Akhther, in-charge of the maternity ward at Banskhali Upazila Health Complex, said the fifth grader went into labour at 10:30am when she was sitting for her math exam at the Banskhali Govt Model Primary School center, reports UNB.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Banshkhali Police Station, Kamal Uddin, said: “Nezam Uddin, a distant uncle of the girl, along with his associates, raped her in turns 10 months ago.
“The girl did not tell her family, who thought she had a tumor when her belly began to grow,” he said.
The girl gave birth in a room at the school, assisted by nurse in-charge of Banskhali Upazila Health Complex, Shahana Akhter.
They were later taken to the hospital, where her alleged rapist Nezam visited and claimed his paternity.
“Police later arrested him,” the OC said.
