Suspected drug trader killed in Mymensingh ‘gunfight’

Sumon Mia was a listed criminal

A suspected drug trader has been killed in a “gunfight” with Detective Branch (DB) of Police at Shambhuganj Charpuliamari under Sadar upazila of Mymensingh district.

Sumon Mia, 27, son of Suruj Driver of Kalibari area – under the same upazila – was killed in the incident that took place early on Wednesday. 

DB police sources said Sumon was a listed criminal, UNB reports. 

District DB police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shaha Kamal Akanda said, tipped-off, a team of detectives conducted a drive in the area—around 1:45am.

Upon seeing them, criminals opened fire at the DB police. In retaliation, they fired back—leaving Sumon dead.

The criminals also hurled brickbats at the police, the OC said.

Later, police recovered Sumon’s body and took it to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.

Police recovered 4kg of marijuana and 10 bullet casings from the site.
