A midnight clash between two groups of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology in Sylhet left 18 injured yesterday.
An investigation committee headed by Assistant Provost Asish Kumar Banik was formed to look into this incident.
Witnesses informed, the clash initially began surrounding an argument between the followers of BCL's general secretary Imran Khan and joint secretary Sajidul Islam Sabuj at around 11pm Wednesday at the SUST main entrance and later turned into a fist-fight and took a serious turn of events at Shah Paran Hall at around 12am.
The injured from both sides were- Monir, Suman, Mrinoy, Uzzal, Nahid, Piash, Munkir, Joy, Yasmin, Paplu, Shihab, Shamsul, Jahid, Juabir, Monowar, Shimanto, Firoz and Adnan.
SUST BCL's Sajidul said they had tried to resolve the matter within themselves but were suddenly attacked by the other group in dark and so the clash was inevitable.
When asked about this incident, Imran said strong organisational actions should be taken against the miscreants of this incident.
On the other hand, Shah Paran Hall Provost Shahedul Hossain said he wants to ensure that strong disciplinary steps are taken against the miscreants of this clash.
Also, Jalalabad police station officer-in-charge Akhter Hossain informed the Dhaka Tribune that the police reached the spot immediately on receiving news about the incident. He confirmed that three were severely injured and had to be admitted at Osmani Medical College Hospital, while the rest were given first aid.
