Four people, including the driver and helper of a covered van, were killed in a vehicle collision in Sirajganj. At least 15 others were also injured in the accident.
The road mishap occurred on Bangabandhu Bridge West Highway around 2:45am on Saturday in Sirajganj sadar Upazila.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bangabandhu Bridge West Police Station Syed Shahid Alam told the Dhaka Tribune: “A Gaibandha-bound bus of Shyamoli Paribahan attempted to overtake a covered van, but collided with it instead.
“Following the collision, both vehicles overturned and crashed on the side of the highway.”
The crash left four people dead on the spot, including a female bus passenger, and the driver and helper of the covered van. Later, local police and fire service rushed to the scene and conducted a two-hour rescue operation. The victims were sent to the Sirajganj Sadar Hospital.
The police official added that several of the injured victims are in critical condition. The deceased victims had not been identified as of the filing of this report.
