Border Guard Bangladesh has rescued an abducted local indigenous leader from Bandarban’s Thanchi upazila.
Athui Mong Marma’s kidnappers released him and fled when troopers of BGB battalion 38 conducted a raid at Nafakhum’s Uhlaching Para on Thursday afternoon.
Locals say Athui, his wife Apru Mong Marma, and another resident of the area named Menu Pru Marma had been missing since the evening of May 12. A day later, the abductors released Apru and Menu.
The BGB troopers, led by local zone Commander Habibul Hasan, started raiding various areas on Thursday.
Habibul said: “the miscreants left Athui and fled after we started our raid.”
It is unclear why the karbari was abducted or who are behind the kidnappings.
