The minister later went to visit the injured at Dhaka Medical College Hospital in the evening. He assured them of bearing their expenses on behalf of the government.

Bangladesh Railway Chief Technical Engineer (East) Mizanur Rahman said: “We cannot say what caused the accident without an investigation.”At least four people have been killed and 26 others injured after a train derailed in Tongi Railway Station area in Gazipur. The railway was closed for five hours before emergency services recovered the derailed compartments and hauled them back on track.
Three of the deceased have been identified as Shahadat Hossain, Amir Uddin, and Khokon. One other remains to be identified.
Tongi Railway Station Master Halimuzzaman said the commuter train, coming from Jamalpur to Dhaka, was leaving the Tongi station when four compartments became dislodged from the engine around 12:30 noon.
The passengers on the roof of the compartments jumped off in fear, resulting in the many casualties. In Bangladesh, a great number of rail passengers clamber on top of the compartments because of unavailability of space inside the compartments.
