Quota reform: RU students declare indefinite strike on campus from Wednesday

Update : 11 Apr 2018, 12:58 AM
Students of Rajshahi University (RU) have declared an indefinite strike beginning on Wednesday. Student Rights Reform Forum RU unit spokesperson Masud Munnaf made the declaration in front of the local library at 7pm on Tuesday, after a procession from the same area at 6pm. Campus sources said the strike was declared to press home demands for quota reforms, the release of protesters arrested in Dhaka, to ensure the injured receive proper treatment, and for the withdrawal of the minister of agriculture’s comment and finance minister’s speech. Masud Munnaf said: “According to the decision of the central committee, an indefinite strike has been called from Wednesday. The strike will continue everyday from 10 am to 7 pm.” Earlier, the minister of Agriculture had used the profanity “son of a Rajakar (traitor)” in the parliament on Monday. On Tuesday, Finance Minister AMA Muhith said: “The reform of quota system will not be possible before the national budget.”
