At least 35 students have been injured in a clash between police and demonstrators at Jahangirnagar University (JU) during a protest program demanding reforms of the existing quota system in government recruitment tests.
Police fired rubber bullets, used tear shell gas and water cannon on the demonstrators in front of the main gate of the university on Monday afternoon to try to disperse them.
Students also threw brickbats at the law enforcers.
The clash began around 12:30pm and is still ongoing, the correspondent said.
Meanwhile, police took control of the Dhaka-Aricha highway for a short time, but the protestors again took position on the highway.
