Local lawmaker Hasibur Rahman handed her the appointment letter at the Shahjadpur Muktijoddha Sangsad office on Friday morning.
MP Hasibur said: “The prime minister is committed to ensuring the safety of journalists and so are we.”
The lawmaker also expected the premier’s interference on behalf of Shimul’s widow and her kids in the building of a house for them. He also thanked the health minister for keeping his promise of giving a job to Nurunnahar.
MP Hasibur also reiterated his claim that journalist Shimul was killed in the shooting by Shahjadpur Municipality Mayor Halimul Haque Miru.
He demanded the transfer of the murder case to a Speedy Trial Tribunal and death penalty for the persons involved in the killing.
Shimul, a correspondent of daily Samakal, was shot during a clash between the supporters of Shahjadpur Government College unit Chhatra League President Bijoy Mahmud Mamun and Miru’s brother Pintu over previous enmity.
Shimul succumbed to his injuries on the following day while being taken to Dhaka.
Mayor Miru claimed that bullets were fired from both sides, but police in primary investigation found that the bullets were fired from only the mayor’s gun.
