BNP leader beaten to death at arbitration

A BNP leader has beaten to death during an altercation with opponents at an arbitration in Jamalpur. The incident occurred in Shahpara village of Digpait union around 10am on Monday. Locals said after a long-standing land dispute between Kazem Uddin and Moyez Uddin of the same village, local businessman and BNP ward 7 Organizational Secretary Babar Ali offered arbitration. During the arbitration, when both parties were making their cases, one of Moyez Uddin’s supporters struck Babar Ali in the head with a wooden staff. He was rushed to Jamalpur General Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. An autopsy was scheduled for later. Confirming the incident, Narayanpur Police Investigation Centre Sub-Inspector Joynal Abedin said a case would be filed over the incident.
