Police informant arrested for selling stolen motorcycle

Kotwali police have arrested an informant on charges of selling a stolen motorcycle to a Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) sub-inspector (SI) on Thursday. The detainee was brought before a court on Friday. According to police sources, the detained Shahjahan used to work as an informant for SMP and was caught after selling the motorcycle to SMP’s SI Shomiron Singh. The stolen motorcycle belonged to Maruf Ahmed, Sylhet correspondent of private satellite television channel NTV. According to Maruf, the motorcycle was stolen from the Manik Pir road area on December 20. “On Thursday evening, I went to a mechanic near Dilshad Cinema Hall to install a censor horn. At that same time, SI Shomiron Singh came to the shop with my stolen motorcycle to fix its chain. I informed Kotwali Police Station SI Shafiqul Islam Khan about the matter soon afterwards,” he said. Relatives of two other thieves involved in the incident are being interrogated at Kotwali police station as law enforcement officials search for other members of the motorcycle theft gang. Sub-Inspector Shomiran singh has been suspended from his duties pending an investigation. Meanwhile, the motorcycle has been returned to its owner.
