Juboraj, the lion that has been suffering from several age-related health issues, succumbed to his ailments on Tuesday morning.
Comilla Zila Parishad CEO Sanjay Kumar Bhowmick confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.
A four-member medical team has been formed to conduct the lion’s necropsy.
Sanjay said: “A lion has an average lifespan of 14 years; Juboraj was already 18. We brought him from the Chittagong Zoo 18 years ago.”

Following the publication of the report, the authorities concerned have also been considering renovation for the zoo.
A visit to the zoo in its current condition gives one an impression of an abandoned establishment as most of the cages are empty.
Besides Juboraj, its lone lion, the zoo has a total of eight monkeys, three moorfowls and three deer on public display.
Locals have complained that the zoo premises get inundated with a moderate rainfall.
Because of poor maintenance, visitor turnout has been decreasing every year.
