Comilla Zoo won't display ailing lion anymore
Juboraj, the ailing lion at Comilla Zoo, will not be displayed for the visitors anymore. The visiting vets from Dhaka have confirmed the matter on Wednesday after giving treatment to the lion. Dhaka Zoo’s Veterinary Surgeon Dr Nazmul Hasan said: “The lion has long been suffering from several age-related complexities. We will provide him with food and medication as long as he survives but he will not be displayed anymore.” Later, the vets visited other animals in the zoo. Comilla Zila Parishad Chairman Md Abu Taher, Comilla Zila Parishad CEO Sanjay Kumar Bhowmick and Comilla district District Livestock Officer Dr Abdul Mannan were present among others at the time. Sonjoy Kumar Bhowmik, on Tuesday, told the Dhaka Tribune: “A lion has an average lifespan of 14 years and Juboraj is already 18. We brought him from the Chittagong Zoo eighteen years back.” Earlier on Tuesday, Dhaka Tribune published a report titled “Comilla Zoo draws visitors’ ire over care of lone ailing lion” which drew widespread criticism from different quarters. The Comilla Zoo has been running with a collection of a total of eight monkeys, three moorfowls and three deer.
