An SSC examinee has allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his house in Gopalganj’s Kashiani upazila, apparently after falling prey to the deadly Blue Whale game.
The body of 15-year-old Rafiqul Islam Partha was recovered from a second floor flat in a five-storey apartment building adjacent to Ramdia Krishi Bank on Monday, Ramdia police outpost In-Charge Md Shafikul Islam told the Dhaka Tribune.
Partha lived there with his schoolteacher elder brother Shourav Talukder. The teenager was supposed to sit for the SSC examination next year from Ratoil Nayebunnesa Institution.
Police official Shafikul said: “We spotted several whales and the word F57, the suicide group of Blue Whale gamers, marked on his body. Besides, we found writings on Blue Whale in his personal diary which suggest that the student might have committed suicide after being addicted to the game.”
The body was later sent to Gopalganj General Hospital for an autopsy.
Shourav told the Dhaka Tribune that his brother had become very frustrated after failing in four subjects in the test examination prior to the SSC exam and gradually got addicted to the fatal game.
