At least seven people have been killed and 35 others injured after two buses collided head-on at the Bahalbarhia area of Santhia upazila in Pabna.
Ataikula police station's Officer-in-Charge (OC) Masud Rana said the incident took place on Dhaka-Pabna Highway around 1:30pm on Sunday.
Four of the deceased were identified as Ayet Ali Biswas, Abul Kalam, Ripon and Lion.
Ripon was one of the bus drivers and the others were passengers. Three other victims could not be identified immediately.
Quoting witnesses, OC Masud said the accident occurred when a Dhaka-bound Sumi Paribahan bus crashed into a Shah Nakib Paribahan bus coming from Sirajganj, leaving five people dead on spot.
Thirty-seven others, mostly passengers, were rushed to different hospitals with various types of injuries.
Ten people with critical injuries were sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, where two of them died undergoing treatment.
Sub-Inspector Anwarul Islam, in-charge of Madhupur Highway Police outpost, said the accident had halted traffic on the highway for a while.
He said vehicular movement returned to normal after the damaged buses were moved from the road.
