A 24-year-old Bangladeshi expatriate in Saudi Arabia has been murdered over some money, according to his family.
Local police on Tuesday detained two Pakistanis and a Bangladeshi over the murder of Bashir Ahmed, and the three later confessed to the killing, they said.
A visit to Bashir’s home in Comilla’s Chandina upazila on Wednesday showed a throng of relatives and well-wishers mourning the youth’s death.
According to the bereaved family, Bashir went to the middleeastern country around five years ago in search of a better living. He got a job at a company there and used to live with his co-workers at a camp.
On Sunday, some of Bashir’s acquaintances took him to a desolate place on the pretence of getting the Covid-19 vaccine and killed him by slitting his throat, his family alleged.
Bashir’s elder brother Mozammel Haque said others in the camp contacted the police on Monday after being unable to find Bashir, and they later detained two Pakistanis and a Bangladeshi in this connection.
“My brother did not send money to Bangladesh for a few months. He had amassed a significant sum. They killed him to get the money,” claimed Mozammel.
Meanwhile, Chandina Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ashrafun Nahar said the upazila administration will provide some financial assistance if the family contacts them.
