The High Court ordered the administration to ensure the security of the officials and staff of the Barapukuria Coalmine Ltd by preventing outsourced employees of a Chinese company.
The bench of Justice Quazi Reza-Ul-Hoque and Justice ABM Altaf Hossain passed the order on Tuesday in response to a writ petition lodged by 147 officials and staff of the state-owned company. The petitioners alleged that the outsourced employees of a Chinese company tortured them a number of times and even made them hostages.
In April this year, they confined the petitioners for 34 hours at a stretch without supplying any food, KM Hafizul Alam, one of the petitioners, told the Dhaka Tribune. The court also issued a rule seeking explanations from the authorities concerned as to why they should not be directed to ensure security in line with Key Point Installation Security Guidelines
