Case filed against Labaid Hospital

A case was filed against Managing Director of the Labaid Hospital AM Shamim and five doctors under section 304 of the Penal Code for deaths due to their negligence yesterday.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Emdadul Haque yesterday ordered to conduct an investigation into the matter and submit the report before the court on July 13 to the vice-chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).

The plaintiff Mahmuda Ahamad, wife of victim Nasir Uddin, yesterday filed a petition with the court against Shamim and five doctors of the Labaid Hospital.

The other accused are APM Shorab Uzzaman, Lokman Hossain and Emdad Hossain.  

According to the case details, the victim Nasir Uddin from Daudkandi of Comilla was admitted into the Labaid Hospital. The doctor suggested him for an angiogram test and after the test the doctor told him he had some heart blockages.

Later they suggested him for a bypass surgery and on April 5 Nasir underwent a bypass surgery.

After the surgery the patient developed breathing problem and he died in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on April 25.

In this connection the wife of the victim Mahmuda Akter filed the case against the Labaid managing director and four doctors of the hospital alleging that her husband died due to doctors’ negligence.
