A team of Narayanganj police in a special drive arrested two aides of fugitive Nur Hossain, prime suspect in seven murders following abduction, from Noakhali without corresponding anything with the district police.
The arrestees are Mohiuddin Nayan, 35, and Ferdous Quraishi Samrat, 20.
They were arrested from Shenbagh area of the town around 8:30pm by a team led by Narayanganj Additional Police Superintendent (crime) Subrata Kumar Halder.
However, when asked about the development, Subrata told the Dhaka Tribune over phone that they had launched the drive based on information and were very much close to arrest the duo.
He said the raid was underway and it would continue until this morning.
Ferdous is the son of Siraj Miah, owner of Siraj Furniture Shop in Chittagong Road area of Narayanganj. Mohiuddin is the son-in-law of Siraj.
When contacted, Siraj told the Dhaka Tribune over phone that Mohiuddin used work at a truck stand operated by Nur Hossain while “Ferdous works with me at my shop.”
He claimed: “Ferdous went to the village home on April 20 with my wife as my brother-in-law died.”
Asked about Mohiuddin, Siraj said: “He went to my house for a visit couple of days ago. I do not know why police picked them up.”
When contacted, Moniruzzaman, the police super of Noakhali, told the Dhaka Tribune that they had not been aware of the arrest.
The Dhaka Tribune also contacted Dr Khandakar Mohid Uddin, the police super of Narayanganj. He said: “Our special raid is underway. We hope to give you some positive and good information on Sunday [today]. It may not be big news but something good.”
