‘Ahsanullah murder verdict to be executed’

Update : 07 May 2014, 07:36 PM

Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif said steps would be taken to execute the verdict in the killing case of former chairman of Bangladesh Institute of Labour Studies Ahsanullah Master.

“Although the verdict has been pronounced, we feel sorry that it is yet to be implemented,” said Hanif at a programme arranged yesterday marking the 10th death anniversary of Ahsanullah, also a former lawmaker.

“We were in office for the past five years but could not move the case from the High Court. Steps will be taken to execute the verdict following discussion with the Law Minister,” he said.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s husband Ziaur Rahman set off the politics of murder and his party, after forming RAB back in 2004, oppressed Awami League men, Hanif claimed.

“The recent Narayanganj killings are a part of that. Your [Khaleda] terrorist force has killed Ahsanullah but you did not apologise for that. You are at the centre of all the killings and incidents of forced disappearance. I will keep asserting that,” he added.

At the programme, Ahsanullah’s son Zahid Ahsan Rasel called for execution of the verdict handed down to the convicted criminals.

Earlier in the day, different individuals and organisations laid wreath at Ahsanullah’s grave.

Former Jubo League president Jahangir Kabir Nanak, State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroiz Chumki and Gazipur Deputy Commissioner Nurul Islam attended the programme among others.
